    AFTER CARE GUIDES

    Dermal Filler Treatment Aftercare
    • Directly after treatment you may experience some redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and/ or bruising. Your skin will normally settle after a few days. You may apply a cool compress to the area to help reduce swelling and soothe the area. You may also apply arnica topically to help reduce bruising.
    • For the first 24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol as this may result in additional bruising.
    • Until the swelling and redness have resolved, avoid intense heat in the treated area(s), this includes sunbathing, tanning, saunas, hot tubs, or hot wax treatments.
    • Depending on the areas treated and the product used, you may feel “firmness.” These areas will soften and usually settle within 1-2 weeks.
    • Sunscreen and makeup may be applied 4 hours post treatment, however, please ensure these are applied with clean hands, brushes or sponges to avoid any risk of infection.
    Anti-wrinkle Treatment Aftercare
    • For at least 24 hours after injections do not rub, or massage the treated area, or undertake vigorous exercise. After washing treated areas, pat dry gently.
    • Makeup may be applied 1 hour following treatment but please ensure that this is applied with a clean brush/sponge.
    • Avoid any beauty treatments (i.e.facials, brow waxing) and saunas, steam rooms and sunbeds for 2 weeks post treatment.
    • Remember that the treatment will start to take effect after 2-3 days, however, it can take up to two weeks for the treatment to take full effect. The speed of action depends on the strength of the muscles injected and your individual response.

Lipolysis Fat Dissolving Aftercare using AQUALYX®
    • Do not wash or take a shower for at least 8 hours after treatment.
    • Avoid exercising for 48 hours after treatment. Exercising will cause you to sweat and excrete the solution out of the pores of the skin, which will decrease effectiveness of the treatment.
    • Drink lots of water this will help with the lipolysis action.
    • Gentle lymphatic massage can assist with the process.
    • Sun exposure should be avoided for 48 hours after the treatment and until bruising subsides. If you must go into the sun, always use a SPF 25 or greater.
    • Small red lumps are normal.  However, occasionally an allergic reaction can occur in the form of small lumps.  If the area is itchy and raised, we recommend taking antihistamines.
    • If the lumps last longer than 24 hours, feel hot to the touch, are red, painful or look like blisters seek medical attention as this could indicate an infection.
    • NOTE: It is crucial that you keep the area clean and free from cosmetics, fragrance, tight clothing and anything that could cross contaminate the area. You must also drink lots of water and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours after the treatment.

Red Vein Removal Aftercare using ThermaVein®

    Common after treatment:

    • Skin will feel warm but should calm quickly, this can vary due to individual skin type and reaction to treatment.
    • In the days following ThermaVein® treatment, some larger vessels may appear to be visible, this is normal occurrence; these vessels will gradually fade and be broken down by the body.
    • Some redness, dryness, and tiny micro crusts could be present for a few days or longer which is normal. Gentle washing of the skin and the use of a good quality mineral make-up will not affect results.

    For the first 48 hours:

    • Do not keep touching the treated area.
    • Wash area gently, no scrubbing or rubbing.
    • Avoid stretching the skin.
    • If you are prone to flushing, avoid alcohol and spicy foods.
    • Avoid excessive exercise, nothing to cause sweating or dilation of the capillaries.

    After healing has occurred:

    • Always protect the skin with a good broad-spectrum SPF, harmful UV radiation is ALWAYS present in daylight (no matter what time of year or weather conditions) UVA can penetrate glass, you are therefore not protected in your home, office, or car.
    • Avoid harsh cleansing, steaming, or exfoliation of the skin, gentle effective products are advised. Use tepid water on your face and moderate temperature on your body in baths and showers. Avoid squeezing and pulling the skin.
    • Avoid sunbeds, saunas, and steam rooms.
Milia Treatment Aftercare Advice using Thermavein®

Following Milia removal you may experience:

    • A slight reddening of the skin in the area post procedure.
    • The appearance of the Milia may change, it may whiten and become more prominent before is reduces, this is normal.
    • Although unusual, a tiny scab may appear which will eventually fall away naturally.
    • Allow around a week for Milia to break down or come out of their own accord, absolutely NO squeezing, risk of scarring can a be a result.
    • Do not touch the treated area and do not, under any circumstances, remove any scabs that may appear.
    • The treatment area can be washed or cleansed. Gently pat the area dry.
    • It is generally recommended to protect the skin from UV radiation throughout the year.
    • Do not use facial scrubs, waxing or other facial abrasion treatments in the area treated until it has completely healed.
    Sclerotherapy Aftercare

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that is used to shut down unwanted veins by injecting a sclerosing chemical agent into the vein with the purpose of destroying the targeted veins. Sclerotherapy works well for most patients. Three to five sessions are the norm rather than the exception to get rid of targeted veins. However, treated veins usually respond in 3 to 6 months.

During sclerotherapy, mild discomfort may occur. A burning or cramping sensation may be felt for a couple minutes when veins are injected with a sclerosing agent. The sclerotherapy itself usually takes an average of 30 minutes

Veins that respond to sclerotherapy injection treatment usually will not reappear. However, new veins may appear over time as blood flow shifts occur in the tissues. If clinically indicated, these veins may also be treated by injection sclerotherapy.

    Pre-Treatment Instructions:

    • Do not use self-tanning products for at least 2 weeks prior your session
    • Avoid sun exposure or sun beds to your legs I week prior your session
    • Avoid taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen for one week prior to your sclerotherapy session. If you are taking oral steroids, it is recommended to be discontinued two days before your sclerotherapy session.
    • Report any medication allergies to your medical practitioner prior to your sclerotherapy session.
    • If you have any questions or concerns, call the clinic.
    • No air travel should be done within 72 hours following your sclerotherapy session.

    The day of your treatment:

    • Avoid using moisturizer or oil on your legs
    • Do not shave your legs 24 hour prior to your session
    • Remember to bring your compression stockings to your sclerotherapy session.
    • You may prefer to wear trousers as they will conceal the compression stockings
    • Please wear flat or comfortable shoes so that you may walk comfortably after the procedure

    Post-Treatment Instructions:

    • After the sclerotherapy you will need to walk for 20 minutes. You will then be able to drive yourself home. You may resume your regular activities with the exception of running, jumping, swimming, weight lifting and strenuous activities for two weeks.
    • You will be instructed to wear your thigh high compression stockings continuously for a minimum of two more weeks during waking hours or as indicated by physician. During these 2 weeks you can remove your stockings at bedtime, but you will need to put the stockings back on while in bed before you get up for the day. Wear compression stockings: for______ days continuously, then for _____ days during waking hours.
    • Avoid aspirin or Ibuprofen for 2 days following your sclerotherapy session. Thereafter, you may resume them.
    • Do not take hot baths or sit in a spa or sauna for 2 weeks following a sclerotherapy session. Showers are fine, but the water should be cooler than usual. The injection sites may be washed with a mild soap and towel dry. Showers are best taken in the evenings before bedtime since dilation of the superficial veins can occur after showering. A lying-down position while in bed is least likely to cause pooling of blood in the leg veins.
    • You are encouraged to walk a mile a day and to avoid excessive standing while motionless. Options to walking include cycling and light aerobics. You may flex and point your toes 10 times or so every 5 minutes while sitting to circulate blood through your legs by exercising your calf muscle venous pump.
    • Certain tissue changes may be experienced after sclerotherapy. Injected veins may become lumpy and hard for several months, but usually soften and resolve with time. Several injections are usually needed to shut down the tortuous, more significant, varicose veins. Bruising may occur around the injection site and can last days or weeks.
    • If you experience any signs or symptoms which are worrisome to you, you should contact the clinic. Side effects that are worrisome include fever and chills, expanding redness or swelling at injection site, formation of skin ulcers at injection site, and increasing pain localizing to a varicose vein segment. While deep vein thrombosis is uncommon following sclerotherapy, the development of selling or tissue edema in the leg should prompt you to contact us immediately.
